In 1933 the Mercedes-Benz W 18 was presented under the name Mercedes-Benz Type 290 as the successor to the Type 350/370 Mannheim with a smaller M 18 engine. In terms of both its technical structure and the style of its bodies, it represented an enlarged version of the 200 series. The car was factory-made as a four-door touring car, four-door sedan, three- or four-seat convertible A, B, C and D (with two or four doors ), Kübelwagen (for the Wehrmacht) or bare chassis are available. Most of the time it turned out that the compact models on the shorter wheelbase were preferred by the self-drivers, whereas the long models were preferred as chauffeur cars.
