According to Mercedes-Benz, this extremely rare 540 K Cabriolet A with chassis number 130946 is one of only ten vehicles that left the factory in this special “interim specification”: equipped with the more powerful 5.4-liter engine, but with a body in the style of the 500 K with two rear-mounted spare wheels. 

The “130946” was ordered on June 3, 1936 (internal order number “226106”) and the body was completed at the Sindelfingen plant on July 13 of the same year. The car was collected from the Mercedes-Benz showroom in Paris on October 12, 1936 by the then owner of the Paris nightclub “Bar Americain La Roulotte”. The owner of the famous car can be seen in an archive photo posing with his Mercedes-Benz in front of the bar.
