The Intermeccanica Italia are two-seater sports cars produced by the Italian car manufacturer Costruzione Automobili Intermeccanica. These are vehicles that combine a European body with American drive technology. The body design, dating back to the Griffith 600, was at its core a design by former GM designer Robert Cumberford, revised by Franco Scaglione (Italian aircraft engineer & automotive designer).

The Intermeccanica was intended for sale in the United States. Frank Reisner, the owner of the company, was able to win over a dealer who undertook to sell around 100 vehicles a year on the American market. 97 cars of the Intermeccanica Torino were produced up until the intervention of the Ford group, and another 411 vehicles were produced by the successor known as the Intermeccanica Italia.

In 1970, Intermeccanica began to offer the coupés and cabriolets on the European market as well. Sales were taken over by Erich Bitter, who initially initiated the development of the Intermeccanica Indra based on Opel technology and a few years later produced his own, very similarly designed car, the Bitter CD.
