Bugatti developed the Type 59 for the 750 kilo formula from 1934. In total, only four Bugatti T59 were built. The newcomer, visually similar to its predecessors T51 and T54, made its debut with a 2.8 liter engine at the Spanish GP in 1933. It ended in fourth place for Varzi. This Type 59 was driven and tested by Varzi in 1933.

Achille Varzi was one of the best drivers of the early 1930s, but it was his fate to be the loser in a duel with Tazio Nuvolari. For the 1935 season, Achille Varzi was signed by Auto Union, which meant a kink in his career. Reset by stall orders because the German politicians would rather see a German driver win, he sought consolation in drugs and women’s stories.
