Peter Monteverdi founded MBM (Monteverdi Basel Motors) and produced a small number of racing cars and road sports cars in the early 1960s. In 1962 he offered for sale the Tourismo, a two-seater sports car with a fibreglass moulded body on an Austin Seven chassis and a modified Ford 997cc OHV 4-cylinder engine with a 4-speed manual gearbox. The body design was by Heron Plastics in the UK. Monteverdi planned to mass produce the Tourismo, but records indicate that only 1-2 cars were made. MBM is the forerunner of the Swiss sports car manufacturer Automobile Monteverdi.
