In 1937 the Horch 951 was introduced as the successor to the 851 with a 9 cm longer body (5.64 m). The model car is the former company car of the German ambassador to Argentina, bodied by Gläser. The Gläser GmbH was an important German body manufacturer, which made a name for itself particularly with its convertible bodies.

The company was founded in 1864 by Carl Heinrich Gläser in Dresden. The successor company of Gläser GmbH was the VEB Karosseriewerk Dresden (KWD). Mr. Erich Heuer relocated the existing machines to Ullersricht near Weiden in the Upper Palatinate and produced between 100 and 250 convertible bodies for the Porsche 356. 16 aluminum bodies were also made for the Porsche Type 540 “America Roadster”, which was a 356 model in a small series for the US market. However, Heuer had to stop production in November 1952 due to miscalculations.
