Although little known in American automotive circles, Giotto Bizzarrini's references are legendary in Italy, as he was the project engineer for Enzo Ferrari's legendary 250 GTO, the original Lamborghini 3500 GT V-12 and the Isos Rivolta and Grifo. In 1964, Bizzarrini founded his own company. Bizzarrini initially concentrated on building high-performance machines based on the Corvette-powered Grifo, which he had developed for Renzo Rivolta's Iso. In order to hide components, chassis etc. from the insolvency administrator, he dismantled and hid at least one Bizzarrini P538. After the bankruptcy, Bizzarrini and his wife Rosanna built a small number of P538s in a small workshop with his former foreman Salvatore Diomante in the early 1970s. Among these so-called second generation cars was the chassis number P538B04, which was commissioned by the French Jacques Lavost, now director of the French Iso and Bizzarrini Owner's Club. In 1978 it was completed with - 'oh wonder' - original components.
