In 1935, the Tatra Type 77 was further developed into the Type 77 A. Compared to the Type 77, the Type 77A had a larger engine capacity (3.4 liters) and higher engine output (70 hp/51 kW), a 10 cm longer wheelbase, slightly improved handling characteristics and a top speed of over 150 km/h. The Type 77 A can be easily distinguished from its predecessor by the third headlight in the middle - a first for a Tatra. When the successor Type 87 appeared in 1936, the T 77 A was not discontinued, but continued to be built in 154 units until 1938 due to the continuing interest.
A total of 255 vehicles of the Type 77 and Type 77 A were produced in all versions (excluding prototypes; Type 77: 101 and Type 77A: 154), whereby hardly any two cars were the same due to the frequently realized customer wishes.
