Vidal & Sohn Tempo-Werk GmbH, based in Hamburg-Harburg, was founded in 1928 to build delivery vans. Due to a law passed in 1928, motor vehicles with fewer than four wheels and an engine capacity of less than 200 cubic centimetres could be driven without a driving licence and were tax-free. Today, the Tempo tricycles and the Matador and Wiking models are still particularly well known. The Harburg Tempo factory became part of Hanomag-Henschel Fahrzeugwerke GmbH in 1969, which in turn was taken over by Daimler-Benz AG in 1971.
